5 Songwriting Tips For The Lazy

Listen to this article

It’s humorous, being a songwriter myself, so I always realize that composing songs can sometimes be a chore. But why does it feel this way? Is not that supposed to be my own passion? Is not this supposed to become some thing that I never get tired of?

Well, not precisely. Everything becomes boring once in a while, even the things that youre most passionate about. So every so often I love to take the lazy man’s route to doing things. And I often create some quite good outcomes!

So listen . If you newbie in songwriting, or even if you’re at it for some time — I’m going to a few simple tricks that can help you begin the writing process through seconds.

Here we go

1) Review a particular situation in your day. It might be in the office, during your travels, or at home. It might be along with your workmates, your loved ones or your friends. Just any situation that affected you in a positive or negative manner.

An example of this could be”when you’re at work, your boss only keeps hounding you. But, the One Thing That keeps you going through the day will be that you understand that someone in the workplace has a crush on you”

(the above is a very dry case but try to use me here!)

2) Write down as many words as you can imagine that relate to a circumstance.

Let’s follow the case from before on:

Anger, pain, depressed, joyful, excitement, anxiety, anxious, misery, impatience, relaxation, goofy, complicated, annoying, frustrating, antagonising, fancy, hot, cool, pretty, smile, etcyou get the point:–RRB-

3) Write down random brief sentences on your situation involving the words that you cited him step two. So let us keep in our small experiment

The way he spoke to me really angers me
If he understood the pain I suffered inside
When I see her pretty eyes it up makes me smile
I Need to act cool and complicated — don’t want to get frustrated
He does not understand what exactly makes my day go by
Don’t wish to be inside this misery for more

Etc, etc., at this point it’s important to remember that you don’t need to use all the words that you mentioned earlier in step two. As you can see Ive actually begun to make up my own lines *withoutany of these words also! At times, I’m rhyming the words without even realizing. And this is exactly where the magic starts to occur

You may easily turn this notion into a full-fledged song. Use rhymezone.com to help you find words that rhyme along with other relevant words as well.

My example was very average and simplified — however, you may use an example that is a little more dramatic. You really ought to find wild with your ideas! Really, just let loose.

4) Listen to your backing track (an worthy of a tune ) that you have NO CLUE about. While its playing, make a tune. Doesnt need to be perfect, just create a tune on the fly. You dont need to sing some other lyrics either. Just humm or even laaa a tune out before youre hearts content.

Why do so? This is a workout that may subconsciously preparing you to make melodies to get youre own chord sequences in the next step.

5) Create a easy chord progression on the keyboard or guitar. When I say easy, I mean *easy *. Perhaps TWO chords for the verse and TWO chords to the chorus. Now produce a melody in addition to the chord progression. Document the song . There you have it.

Be aware: if you dont play an instrumentthen hook up with a person who does. After allyou pretty much have half the song today:–RRB-

Still think its difficult conceiving an idea? Want to find out more? I have *plenty more* that I want to talk with you
