“Songwriting Tips: Un-original Melodies Can Be A Good Thing…”

Listen to this article

The moment people create a melody that they believe is fantastic, many think it sounds like another song. This is common, and I suffered from this many times. Everything you have got to understand is that ALL SONGS are RECYCLED MELODIES.

Every song has a’part’ of the song which will be the same as another. So don’t be concerned if you’re feeling that your song sounds just like another.

What is important to know here is that if your melody is a familiar one, then that is a fantastic THING. I am not talking about a’tear off’ here, so I am referring to a component (s) of the melody which sounds like another tune (s).

Why is it a fantastic thing? Since it implies PEOPLE can RELATE TO THE MELODY even more. They will want to listen to your song due to the familiarity.

Bear in mind, most people are not songwriters. So chances are, most folks will not even realize where it may or may not have been moved from. And what if they do? Well… finally, as a whole, it will be your own words, your own tune and finally with your own music. So it will be YOUR SONG. So don’t worry.

Here, I will share some strategies which will jump start the process of creating a melody:

– Pick a song you enjoy and know *quite* well, and whenever you are NOT listening to it, hum the song of the song. DON’T’ SING THE WORDS, just hum the melody. In this manner, you may consider’melodically’. At some point, you should force yourself to sing particular variations of the melody (ie. Completely mess up with the song ). When this occurs, you will end with your own melody.

– If you play a tool (it is irrelevant what or which level you are at) try and find out the melody of another song on the instrument. If you figure it out easily, then mess around and then CHANGE particular elements of it. Subsequently SING (hum, la, etc) this CHANGED MELODY out aloud. If you can’t figure it out, then forget about it! CREATE A MELODY YOU FEEL IS Accurate! Again, don’t prejudge while doing this. Only go where your fingers take you and only’la’ the song simultaneously. When you believe you’ve got something good loop this melody.

– Grab a song you do N’T KNOW AT ALL. Listen to the song once, and then listen to it . The next time round, sing along into it. More than likely, you won’t recall the song. This is normal! What do you do now? Yup. You guessed it. MAKE UPYOUR OWN MELODY to this vague song. Be aware: This one may work better if you bought a CD of backing tracks which have no manual vocals on the tunes. In this manner, you must compose your own melody into a track that is playing. Just be sure you DON’T KNOW the songs….at all.

You have no clue how powerful this really is. I have written fresh songs on the I’d no clue about! And think, they are original songs – they don’t sound as a replica of anything whatsoever. This is due to what I said earlier – finally it will be your personal lyrics, your personal message and your own music that then translates to your own song.

*Maintaining The Melody Simple*

Lastly, there’s zero point in earning a melody that is’musically clever’. You are not trying to impress musicians here. Everything you would like is to create.

So how can you do this? Well, melodies often re-occur many times in a song. In fact, the verses and choruses alone could often have the song replicating itself. It is the fundamental structure of nearly all music under the sun. The verses will replicate and will the choruses.

SO….IF THE MELODY SOUNDS WORTHY ENOUGH TO BE REPEATED, THEN YOU’RE ON TO SOMETHING.
