Thirteen times, in the book of Hebrews, the writer uses an edifying, faith building device that is Greek. This device usually begins with the saying let us. I call it a let us exhortation.
To put it differently, when this particular grammatical device was used by an author, he just exhorted someone to join with him/her within an act. He/she could exhort one to join in and help start an action that hadn’t yet begun.
Or he/she could exhort someone to join in an act that had begun namely an act that has been in progress and in which speaker or the author had been engaged.
In Hebrews, both types were employed by our writer. See his Permit Us Exhortation # 5 under.
Heb 4:16
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (KJV)
Within this passage, Let’s signifies that the writer has been engaged in the act of coming to the throne of Grace. He is presently coming to the throne to acquire some things.
To begin with, he goes to acquire mercy. Secondly, he goes to find grace to assist. Third, he goes there to have the two things in a timely manner, when the need arises.
By using the Let Us Exhortation Device, our writer exhorts his readers to join in with him in an act already in progress and in which the writer himself is engaged.
He is already coming boldly into the throne room of God himself. He is coming into that area that is great to get some things.
He does it. He is not even a wimp. He knows who he is. He knows what the promises are. He knows what is his.
He goes in boldly to get them. He also exhorts all his readers to join in with him in this action that is continuing. We must join in together in this action that is continuing.
Were promised him. This Abrahamic guarantee comprised healing, prosperity and family well being in addition to salvation.
The blessings he’d can also be ours by grafting. Christians are contained in this same Abrahamic covenant along with all the Jews. Therefore, healing, prosperity, family well being and salvation belong to us too.
For all these reasons we could come in the living room just as boldly as the writer of Hebrews. Regardless of this writer used this faith building, Greek device to exhort us ( we Gentile Christians are comprised by grafting) to input this exact same throne room right with him. We’ve got the right to enter and get what we want when we want it.
Go ahead. Go in the throne room. If your need is healing, prosperity, family well being in addition go right ahead and enter the throne. It’s your God given right.
