Affirmative Action, Is It Good Or Bad?

Affirmative Action, Is It Good Or Bad?
Listen to this article

This article doesn’t discuss the legalities of affirmative action, I leave it to the courts. This guide is solely about the philosophy of affirmative actions.

According to Wikipedia, affirmative action”is a policy or a program promoting the representation in a variety of systems of people of a group who have been discriminated against, with the goal of creating a more contemporary society”. In my opinion, affirmative action, at least as it has been staged in this country, is wrong, dangerous, racist and prejudicial. Affirmative actions seems to be based, solely, on gender or race.

For instance, take two high school pupils, both attend the identical income field high school, one is’black’ and one is’white’. Even the’black’ student’s household, immigrated to this country from Canada two decades back, his father works full time and his mother has been a’stay at home mom’. Even the’white’ student’s ancestors immigrated to this country his father was killed, in a home invasion robbery, after he was seven years older and his mother works part time. Even the’black’ student has a grade point average of 3.05 with an S.A.T. score of 1085. Even the’white’ student has a grade point average of 3.55 plus a S.A.T. score of 1270. Both pupils are courteous and well mannered. Nobody has any criminal record or belongs to a group. Both wish to visit a good university so both apply to U.C.L.A.. Which student would be accepted? Even the’white’ student would not be addressed under positive actions, as’whites’ haven’t been discriminated against, and no duty is owed him for being poor and fatherless (being poor and fatherless is not thought to be disadvantaged and the fact he attended the exact same low income school as the’black’ student is also not considered a disadvantage for a’white’). The’black student, nevertheless, is considered disadvantaged and is believed to come from a race that has been discriminated against (Actually his family came here from Canada, the fact he has a parent who works full time and the fact he has not suffered racial discrimination does not matter) . Under affirmative action, the’black’ student would not just be accepted, he’d be qualified for financial aid. Even the’black’ student would go to U.C.L.A. along with the’white’ student would probably end up in a community school.

Change the example to some’student and a’hispanic’ student along with the’black’ student could be accepted as’blacks’ rank higher on the charts that were disadvantaged. Between a’hispanic’ and a’white’ the hispanic would be accepted as’whites’ do not rank on the chart, nor do’orientals’, South East Asians or Jews. The fact that South East Asians Orientals and Jews have been discriminated against in this country doesn’t matter as the’political correctness’ police in this country don’t believe them. The student that will be rated higher on the chart that is disadvantaged would be ‘black’ female student. A rich’black’ student who attended the best schools would rank exactly the sames as a bad’black’ student who attended that a very low income school.

Some colleges are allowed to use affirmative action so that they now use’cultural diversity’ as their criteria. To me positive action and diversity will be the exact same thing. Both utilize gender and racial profiling so as to determine who is accepted. This is America and everyone is supposed to be equal and recieve treatment. Racial and gender profiling tells people that females and a few races are less competent than others and therefore require help in reaching their own potential. By telling folks they are not all equal under the eyes of law this country is harmed by profiling. Profiling informs some people they can not make it with no help and that they aren’t as competent or as intelligent as people. It tells people that because they’re’white’, they do not deserve help. While punishing other people, it benefits some people. The country is divided by this and causes, in consequence. America is a land of immigrants who must have been melded into a good class of people. To tell them that’blacks’, whites’,”hispanics’,”orientals’, ‘ are all different and have different skills keeps this country from being united. To grant advantages to one group over the other is discriminitory and divisive. To tell’blacks’,”hispanics’ and others they can not make it without help would be to tell them that they aren’t as qualified as’whites’,”orientals’ along with others.

A number of you might be wondering why I continue placing single quote marks around specific words like’black’,’white’, etc.. It’s because I don’t like using tags such as’black’ and’white’ to describe people. Words like’hispanic’ are used structurally as they have a tendency to catagorize people from many nations or groups into one group. All’blacks’ aren’t the colour of black, all’whites’ aren’t the colour of white and ‘hispanics’ aren’t always of Spain or Spanish speaking (Brazilians, for example, are classified’hispanic’ even though they speak Portuguese and most are descended from Portugal or any African country.) . So far as I am concerned all people who are citizens (naturalized or other) or live permanently in the United State Of America are either American citizens or American residents. To label them otherwise would be to denigrate, isolate and seperate them. Theories, like diversity and affirmative action, induce the use of such tags.

The people of this country need to be drawn together, not seperated. Being proud of your ancestors and your legacy is 1 thing, punished being rewarded or seperated due to legacy or your ancestors is something else entirely. Being rewarded as others of your race or gender were abused in the past is wrong for what others of your race or gender did previously and being punished is equally wrong. Would you like to be fined stealing as you’re a’white’ man and a few other’white’ male uttered a horse over fifty years back or even last week? Untill all people within this country are treated alike, and with the same respect, and therefore are given the same chances, we will not be”One nation under God, indivisable, with liberty and justice for all”. Discrimination is wrong.

Note: For any of you that thing to my keeping the phrase”under God” in this previous quotation, hard. That is the way it is said by me. Then do not, if you do not wish to state it this way. Don’t try to tell me I can not say it like that. For all those of you that thing to my using the word’black’ as opposed to the words’African American’, again I say rough. To me’African American’ is’Hispanic’. I believe that the term’black’ is wrong, however, I hate to use the phrase American when is a hyphen before it. An American is an American. I didn’t compose this report to become’right’, I composed this artice to say what I believe. If you would like’political correctness’, go everywhere.
