American Flag History

Each flag has a background of its own and when one delves deep, a fascinating narrative comes to light. The flag isn’t a exception.

Nobody knows for certain who designed the Stars and Stripes, although there are a few stories about the source of this flag. According to a school of thought, Congressman Francis Hopkinson was but a few historians believe that Betsy Ross, a seamstress in Philadelphia, was the person who made the American flag.

It wasn’t till June 24, 1912, that the proportions of this flag was prescribed. Before this year show patterns of odd proportions and these celebrities, as a result, flags made. But largely, stars were put in a row that was straight and’d proportions less like the ones.

Several acts have determined that the development of the flag that was American. According to the very first Flag Act it had been shown that the flag could comprise white and red stripes and thirteen stars. In January 1794it had 15 stripes and 15 stars. The flag had 13 stripes and one star. In 1912, President Taft decreed that the stars must be arranged in six horizontal rows of eight eachyear. He also came up with proportions of this flag. In January 1959, President Eisenhower determined that the stars must be arranged in seven rows of seven stars each, vertically and horizontally. And Eisenhower made adjustments this moment he explained that the stars must be 11 rows and in nine rows vertically. As of todaythe flag has 50 stars and 13 stripes.
