* Fire signs are related to action, fire, and vitality. In comparison with all the additional elements, fire feels that earth will smother it, water will drown it, but air will fan and enliven it.

* Air signs are related to outlook thought and communication. In comparison to all the components, air believes that water will probably obscure it, soil will suffocate it, but fire will energize and inspire it.

* Earth signs are related to stability sense, and restraint. In comparison with all the components, soil believes that it will be dried by air, it will be dried by fire, but water will rejuvenate and nourish it.

Modalities:

Each sign is connected with one of three modalities; cardinal (sometimes referred to as movable), fixed, and mutable.

There are four quadrants following the sequence of their signs, with three signs in each. Annually is described by each quadrant, continuing to a fixed sign beginning with a cardinal sign, and end with a sign.
